Climate week now underway
Published: Tuesday 30 September 2025

To highlight the goals of Climate Week the council is promoting good work being carried out across our communities.
During Climate Week every community group is being encouraged to share their inspiring stories on social media using the hashtag #ScotClimateWeek – more information is also available on the Stories for Change page.
Councillor Norman Rae, the chair of the council’s Climate and Sustainability Committee, said: “We are lucky in South Lanarkshire to have so many groups working very hard to achieve their own goals, playing a vital role to tackle the climate emergency we are all facing.
“I am delighted that this week we will be able to share some of these exciting and inspirational projects that the council has been able to support.”
One of the ongoing climate positive activities is taking place at Fernbrae Meadows Allotments in Cathkin which recently opened its new hub thanks to two £2500 grants through the council’s Climate Emergency Community Grants (funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund). The first grant helped to build the actual hub building while the second one paid for the off-grid solar panels system.

Fernbrae committee chair James Ogilvie said: “The funding, along with additional support from local sponsors and of course our wonderful volunteers, has now allowed numerous projects and ideas to get underway thanks to the new meeting place which is accessible and welcoming, offering shelter and warmth throughout the changing seasons.
“Plans are now underway to develop partnerships with local schools and charities, ensuring the hub becomes a resource for education and wellbeing, with cookery classes, horticultural classes and arts and crafts.”
